Hello! I am David Purucker. I am a sociologist with interests in the study of democratic socialism, social movements, and political economy. On this website, you can find contact information and a list of my published articles and media appearances.

I hold a PhD in Sociology from the University of Oregon, with a dissertation on the rise of democratic socialism in the United States. I am currently working on a coauthored academic press book about the same subject.

My peer-reviewed work has appeared in Critical Sociology, Environmental Sociology, and Interface. I have discussed my work on the Niskanen Center Science of Politics podcast and I have been quoted in The Economist‍, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, and Le Monde ‍for stories on democratic socialism.

My writing on the subject of environmental justice has been cited 27 times, including in high-impact journals in sociology and human geography, and edited volumes in three languages.
